Our preschoolers from The Grange International Preschool (TGIP) explored art, imagination, and play at the National Gallery Singapore’s Gallery Children’s Biennale. This learning experience brought creativity, curiosity, and joyful discovery together in a meaningful way.

The interactive installations and vibrant artworks supported the development of Thinking Learners through observation and questioning. Children engaged their senses, expressed ideas freely, and explored new perspectives through play.

Learning Through Play and Exploration

Play is central to how young children learn. At the Children’s Biennale, young learners interacted with art through movement, touch, and imagination. They explored colours, shapes, sounds, and spaces, while each installation invited experimentation, problem‑solving, and creative expression.

Children engage in hands‑on art exploration at the Gallery Children’s Biennale, supporting IEYC learning through play and sensory discovery.

These experiences support the International Early Years Curriculum (IEYC) belief that children learn through active, hands‑on exploration. Learning becomes meaningful when children feel engaged and curious.

Building Thinking Learners Through Art

Art is a key theme within the IEYC that encourages children to think deeply and creatively. Teachers encouraged preschoolers to question, share ideas, and reflect on what they saw and felt. These moments support our goal of developing Thinking Learners.

Thinking Learners learn how to think, not what to think. This approach aligns strongly with IEYC learning outcomes and learner dispositions.

Children take on a hands‑on puzzle challenge, developing problem‑solving skills and persistence as Thinking Learners through play.

IEYC in Action Beyond the Classroom

The IEYC values learning that connects children to the world around them. Educational visits such as this provide real‑world contexts that deepen understanding. These experiences beyond the classroom support early learning goals in communication, creativity, and personal development.

At The Grange International Preschool, children feel empowered to express ideas and take learning risks. Through play‑based learning, they develop skills for lifelong learning.
